The Spectacular Beaches of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Islands of Andaman and Nicobar probably have the most beautiful and picturesque beaches in the entire world. There are pristine and what can be considered its most attractive feature is that they are not crowded unlike most beaches. If you are visiting the islands for the very first time then it may get confusing to figure out the beach which you would like to visit since there are several spectacular beaches that you will have to choose from. The following contains a list of some of the most beautiful beaches which the islands of Andaman have to offer. The list does not contain the beaches in the Nicobar Islands. Though beautiful, these beaches aren’t open for tourists at all.

1. Corbyn’s Cove Beach



This unspoilt and serene beach is present in Port Blair. It is set against the beautiful green coconut palms and looks something that is straight out of a picture postcard. This beach is particularly known for water sports like scuba diving, surfing and boating. It is located about 8 kms from the city centre and also happens to be the closest beach to the city. It is an ideal spot for sun bathing, surfing or swimming. Located at a little distance from the beach are a guest house Hornbill Nest, Resort Peerless Sarovar and Waves Restaurant to cater to all your needs. Peerless Sarovar is the only resort available in the entire city.

2. Radhanagar Beach



Beach No. 7 is the name that this beach is more popular by. It also features on Asia’s top 5 most beautiful beaches. Present on Havelock Island, so beautiful is the beach that you actually have to see it in order to believe it. The golden sand, soft sun and frothy turquoise waves makes it ‘the’ place to visit. The entire stretch of the beach has a green cover which is another delight to watch. If you love to enjoy quiet places then you should visit this beach for its pin drop silence. All you can hear is the sound of the waves crashing against the beach.

3. Elephant Beach



This is another beach from Havelock Island. It is aptly named because of the Elephants one gets to see on the beach. You can watch them being trained or simply swimming around and relaxing in the calm waters. People also prefer coming here for myriad activities like sightseeing, snorkeling and scuba diving. It is one of those rare beaches in the world which has managed to remain untouched by tourism. Hence it has managed to retain its natural beauty. If you do visit the Elephant Beach then do not forget to go snorkeling, you will see every aquatic animal from eels right up to sea horses.

4. Long Island Beach



As the name suggests, Long Island Beach is located in Long Island which is about 82 kms from the capital, Port Blair. It offers several beaches and is also home to one of the most excellent sandy beaches in the entire world, The Lalaji Bay. The beach has managed to remain unpolluted and at the fringes are the evergreen forests which add to the beauty of the beach. The waters around this island are frequented by convoys of Dolphins and hence the possibility of you catching a view of these beautiful creatures is very high. Lalaji Bay beach can be reached by a jetty from Long Island and is at a distance of just 6 kms from it. Most of the island continues to remain forested.

5. Guitar Island



As the name suggests the shape of the island resembles that of a Guitar. It is about 10 – 15 minutes away if you take a local dunghi. Like most of the beaches which the Andaman and Nicobar islands possess, this too has crystal clear water. The silence that surrounds the beach transports you to a different world. What is probably interesting about this beach is that just opposite to this beach is another one known as Small Guitar Island, which again looks like a guitar.

6. Wandoor Beach



This beach is located at a distance of 25 kms from the capital, Port Blair. If you prefer tourist spots as compared to the calm places, then this is the place to be as hundreds of tourists visit it every day. The water surrounding the beach is very clean and can be swum in. This place is particularly famous for the corals that you will find in the water and also the glass bottomed boats which have magnifying glass at its bottom. It will help you get an unobstructed view of the corals underneath. Ideal for a short get away, it is present at an hour’s distance from Port Blair. There are several little shacks here which offer tasty snacks to munch on. Very close to the beach is the Mahatma Gandhi National Marine Park which also happens to be a tourist attraction.

7. Pathi Level Beach



The Pathi Level Beach has natural beauty writ all over it. Due to the sheer number of beaches available in Andaman several remain unnoticed by tourists. This too is one of the lesser known beaches but is easily accessible. Its white sand beaches and clear open seas make it the perfect place to be. This island can be reached by walk from the Ramnagar Beach and will just take about 40 minutes. It can also be reached by a dunghi from the Kalighat jetty which takes about an hour and a half to reach. There isn’t much to do at this island except for exploring it or enjoying the peace and quiet. If you are lucky enough then you may spot some salt water crocodiles which inhabit these waters. But unfortunately these crocodiles quickly slip into the water making it very hard to click pictures. Sun Bathe, swim or just go crazy in these exotic beaches. They are a perfect place to enjoy whether you are on a holiday with friends or on a honeymoon.
